Join Us for Pride 2011


Happy Pride. Just a heads up about some events coming up in preparation for Boston Pride! Please try and join us for one or all of these events! We’d love to see you.

1) Thursday June 9 – OPTIONZ Dance Party! – 9PM  – Let’s get a group of MASALANS there! It’ll be a great party!

OPTIONZ is an annual diversity-conscious, trans-inclusive, bi-friendly, open-to-all Pride party brought to you by Queer Women of Color and Friends (QWOC+ Boston) Queer and Trans People of Color (including African, African-American, East Asian, South Asian, Asian Pacific Islander, Middle Eastern, Caribbean, Latina/o, South American, and/or Multiracial peeps) and Allies! (Boy, that was a mouthful, but worth it to get our point across). OPTIONZ, for the past five years, has been and always will be a unique social space that QPOC create for ourselves during Boston’s mainstream pride week. This multi-culti celebration is for the ENTIRE race/culture/gender/queer spectrum of people from all parts of New England (and beyond).

2) Friday June 10 Boston Dyke March! 7 PM  – Boston Commons (Bandstand area)
Urvashi Vaid, social justice activist, queer fellow South Asian will be the featured speaker!
Music and dancing @ 6PM
March and Rally @ 7PM
After there March: MASALA Dinner on the Lawn (potluck/order in)

The Boston Dyke March is a non-commercial, community-centered, grassroots, inclusive queer event. Join thousands of dykes, lesbians, bisexuals, queers, genderqueers, transwomen, transmen, intersexuals, and allies marching for political and cultural change.  EXPRESS YOURSELF! Bring drums, noisemakers, whistles, signs, banners, puppets, friends, cheers, merriment, smiles, pride, and more….

3) Saturday June 11 –  HAPPY PRIDE!  March &  Post Pride Lunch Gathering @ Fanueil Hall 
March starts at 11 AM – Some of our members will be marching with MAP for Health. (exact meeting location TBA)
  MASALA Lunch around 1PM  following the march at Fanueil Hall 
We’ll grab food from Bombay Club or any of the other yummy shops there and if it’s nice out, we’ll sit outside and eat

MASALA (Massachusetts Area South Asian Lambda Association) is a New England-based organization for "Gay, Lesbian, Bi, Trans, and Questioning" people of South Asian ethnicity. It was founded in 1992 and is the only organization designed specifically for all queer South Asians in New England. For the purposes of MASALA, "South Asian" is defined as being from "Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Tibet; and from the global South Asian Diaspora". It is a frequent sponsor of film screenings, lectures and other cultural events. "Our aim is to increase the awareness of our presence in the social spaces that we inhabit and welcome alliances with like-minded individuals and groups regardless of their ethnic/cultural/sexual identities.MASALA has connections with many of the colleges and universities in New England. The group also holds monthly potlucks at various locations throughout Boston.
